When to Use Woodworking Glue
When producing items made from wood, woodworking glue is often called for. Unlike everyday adhesive, woodworking glue is incredibly strong and needs to be used wisely. Although screws and nails are often the preferred choice of fastener for securing material pieces, there will be situations when they can not be used.

Securing Wood

This is the main reason for woodworking glue. If you need to hold multiple pieces of wood together, but can not use conventional fasteners in case you damage your material, woodworking glue can provide you with a good compromise. You should also think about using woodworking glue along with screws when putting together things like picture frames or furniture.

If you are using dowels to attach pieces of wood together, dabbing the top of each dowel prior to inserting it into place will also provide you with more secure adherence. However, you should avoid using too much glue in these instances. If a dowel does not fit snugly into a pre-drilled hole, a heavy application of adhesive can make rectifying the issue difficult.

Repairing Wood

If you have damaged wood during a project, you can use woodworking glue to repair any breaks in your workpiece. However, you should avoid being too generous when applying it. A minor break in the surface of a piece of wood can usually be repaired with a few drops of adhesive. Once the glue has fully tried, carefully remove any excess with sandpaper for a smooth finish.

Applying Decorative Pieces

If you need to apply decorative material to your woodworking projects, glue is often the best way to secure them. For example, wood trims and crown moulding will quickly break apart if screwed directly into. If you need to apply such material, avoid reaching for a screw or nail and instead use a liberal application of woodworking glue to seal it in place.
